What You Call Yourself Is The Label That Sticks

Have you ever had someone say something to you that was very hurtful? Chances are you have. Most people experience the sting that comes from words at least a few times in their life. People can be cruel in the way that they judge you.
Here’s the deal with all of that judgement stuff though…
I think you, me, and everyone else spends way too much time worried about what other people think of us.
Is it important what other people think? Sure it is! But…The secret that you have to learn in life is that you can usually overcome almost any label that someone else attaches to you. The really important thing is what we label ourself. Why? Because the label you give yourself is the one that’s most likely to stick.
The value that other people place on your life and your potential is not nearly as vital as the the value you put on your potential. Here’s what I mean…If someone else labels you as incapable, their label only has the power that you let it have. But…if you label yourself as worthless, incapable, untalented, won’t-amount-to-much…you’ve already given power to that label.
  • You always label yourself according to what you think.
  • What you think about yourself you eventually believe.
  • What you believe you always act on.
It’s a simple pattern of belief.

Here’s what you need to do:

1.) Stop labeling your life and potential according to what you think.

It’s not that what you think about yourself isn’t important…it is. It’s just that what God thinks about you and your potential is so much more important. Instead of agreeing with yourself…start agreeing with God.
Here’s something to begin agreeing with:

Psalm 139:14

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.
You truly are wonderfully made. Your life counts. You matter.
2.) Start using your words to bring life.
Listen to what scripture has to say about this:

Proverbs 18:21

The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.

Why not begin using your words to bring life as it relates to your future, your potential, and what you label yourself.
Bottom line is this…You have enough critics already…You shouldn’t be one of them. God created you with potential and a future. You’ll have a better chance to reach both of those things, if you label yourself with the right words. What you call yourself is the label that sticks.

Question: What’s something different that you’re going to begin calling yourself?
